Scott is an accomplished commercial developer of midstream and downstream projects and services throughout the WCSB. Prior to co-founding Steel Reef, Scott spent 12 years focusing on establishing a diverse set of commercial, financial and business development skills for efficiently deploying capital in the mid-stream sector. Scott previously held senior commercial development roles at Keyera Corp., BG International Ltd. and SemCAMS.
Vice President & COO
Austin holds a Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta and is a member of APEGA. Over the past 17 years, Austin has established a broad range of experience in the mid-stream industry including operating mid-stream facilities, mid-stream infrastructure asset management, pipeline and plant due diligence assessments, and managing all classes of mid-stream projects during their construction phases. Prior to co-founding Steel Reef, Austin held roles at Keyera Corp., Skystone Engineering Inc. and Chevron Canada Resources.
Executive Chairman, Director
Lane is a Canadian Risk Manager (CRM) and an accomplished private equity investor and financial manager in the North American Energy and Financial Services sectors. Prior to co-founding Steel Reef, Lane co-founded COSCO Canada Ltd. and was a Managing Director and Partner of COSCO Capital LLC (New York). He was also a co-founder of Canada Brokerlink Inc. and LinkGate Capital Corp.
Caroline Banks, CA
Vice President Finance & CFO
Caroline is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years of oil and gas experience and has extensive expertise in financial management, reporting and analysis, strategic planning and capital markets. Prior to her appointment at Steel Reef, Ms. Banks was a Controller at WestFire Energy Ltd. and held the position of CFO at both Golden Eagle Energy Inc. and Westrock Energy Ltd. She articled with Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. (KPMG) and has a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Calgary.
Robert Lehodey, B.Sc. Chem Eng., LLB, Q.C.
Bob has over 25 years' experience in the areas of corporate securities, oil and gas and general commercial matters. His practice is transactional in nature and includes corporate mergers and acquisitions, public offerings and private placements of equity and debt securities, purchase and sale of assets and shares, corporate restructurings, together with all associated contract negotiations and preparation. He has significant corporate governance experience and has served on a number of public and private boards in positions as Chair, Lead Director and member of governance committees. Bob represents a diverse group of clients, including oil and gas E&P and service companies, oil sands companies, private equity providers, securities dealers and investment banks. He is a Senior Partner at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP.
Steve has over 20 years’ experience in the Canadian oil and gas sector in drilling management, engineering, completions and construction. Steve is Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of Magus Engineering, a leading privately held engineering and consulting firm, with over 70 employees and well site consultants. Steve focuses on assisting upstream oil and gas companies design all types of drilling projects, including horizontal well with multi-stage completion systems, vertical and directional wells, shallow gas wells and oil sands delineation wells. Steve holds a diploma in Petroleum Technology from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.
Jamie McVicar, LLB, MBA
Jamie has over 30 years’ experience in the fields of law, real estate and finance, in public and private companies. Between October 2000 and October 2011, Jamie held the position of Chief Financial Officer, and subsequently Vice President Finance and Administration, at Devonian Properties Inc., a property development company. Prior thereto, Jamie served as President of Newell Post Developments Ltd., a property development company, from June 1998 to June 2000, and legal counsel for Oxford Development Group, a property development company, from 1988 to June 1998. Jamie has served as trustee of Smart Real Estate Investment Trust (formerly Calloway Real Estate Investment Trust), a real estate investment trust with units listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, since December 2001, and has served as a member of Calloway’s Audit Committee and Chair of its Corporate Governance and Compensation Committee since 2003. Jamie holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Toronto.
Rob has over 25 years' experience in Private Equity and Finance. He is is a founding partner of SaskWorks Venture Fund Inc. and a partner in PFM Capital Inc. Since 2003, Rob has held the position of Vice President, Investments for PFM Capital Inc., Apex Investment Fund, and Saskatchewan Entrepreneurial Fund. Rob is also Vice President, Investments and Chief Financial Officer for the general partner of Prairie Ventures Fund Limited Partnership, a position he has held since 2003, and the Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary of SaskWorks Venture Fund Inc., a position he has held since 2005. From 2000 to 2003, Rob was a partner with Crown Capital Partners Inc. From 1994 to 2000, he held the position of Vice President, Investments with the Saskatchewan Government Growth Fund Management Corporation. Prior to this, Rob was Vice President Finance and Investments with the International Centre for Agricultural Science and Technology (ICAST) from 1992 to 1994. Before joining ICAST, Rob was a Manager with KPMG Management Consultants where he was responsible for the Regina practice. He currently holds several directorships in investee companies. Rob holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Regina.
Gregory J. Smith, CA, CBV
Gregory is President and Chief Executive Officer of InstarAGF Asset Management Inc. Gregory has over 20 years of experience in the investment, operation, acquisition, and financing of public and private infrastructure, real estate, power, and utility businesses. Prior to founding InstarAGF, Gregory was Managing Partner and head of Brookfield Financial’s Global Infrastructure Advisory Group from 2010 to 2013. From 2003 to 2010, Gregory was the President of Macquarie Capital Funds Canada Ltd. Prior to Macquarie, Gregory was Managing Director and Co-Head of RBC Capital Partners - Mezzanine Fund from 2001 to 2003 and a Managing Director at Deloitte & Touche Corporate Finance from 1997 to 2001. Gregory has held various board positions and acted as an observer/advisor to the boards of several reporting issuers, as well as private companies. Gregory previously served on the Board of Directors of Canada’s Venture Capital & Private Equity Association, and held positions as Chair and President. Gregory is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Business Valuator, and holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen's University.
Neil Roszell, P.Eng.
Neil has over 20 years of industry experience in the upstream energy sector and is currently the Chief Executive Officer and President of Raging River Exploration Inc. He has founded a number of successful public upstream oil and gas companies including Raging River Exploration Inc., Wild Stream Exploration Inc. (formerly Eagle Rock Exploration Ltd.), Wild River Resources, Prairie Schooner Petroleum Ltd. And Point North Energy Ltd.
Dean Potter, P. Geol., M.Sc.
Dean holds a Masters of Science in Geology and is a proven and successful oil and gas exploration oriented geologist with over 28 years of experience in the upstream energy sector. Dean has founded a number of successful private upstream oil and gas companies, including Elkhorn Resources Inc., Medora Resources Inc., DPX Inc., and SITO Geo-Consulting Ltd. Dean brings to the advisory group strong geological experience and opinion drawing upon a diverse technical background across a wide variety of petroleum reservoirs in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.
