Lane mckayExecutive chairman

Lane is a Canadian Risk Manager (CRM) and an accomplished entrepreneur.  Prior to founding Steel Reef with his two partners, Lane co-founded COSCO Capital Canada in 2001. With his partners, Lane built this New York based private equity investment bank into the leading oil and gas private equity focused investment bank in North America, before selling the company to a NY brokerage firm in early 2007.  Prior to this, from 1993 to 2001, Lane co-founded Canada Brokerlink Inc.  As director and executive vice president of business development, he completed a total of 42 acquisitions, building Brokerlink into the largest independent P&C insurance brokerage in Canada before selling the company to Alliance Insurance in 2000.

Lane's extensive experience in enterprise risk management, growth strategies, acquisitions, investments and capital management has made him an invaluable asset to the inception and growth of Steel Reef Infrastructure Corp.

Scott SouthwardPresident & CEO

As co-founder of Steel Reef, Scott has an accomplished background as a developer of both midstream and downstream projects throughout the WCSB. Prior to joining Steel Reef, Scott spent 12 years establishing a diverse set of commercial, financial and business development skills for managing capital in the mid-stream sector as evidenced by his previously held senior development roles at Keyera Corp., BG International LTD., and SemCams. During this time at Scott was responsible for mid-stream growth and commercial investment in central Alberta and North East British Columbia.  Throughout his tenure at these top, publicly traded organizations, Scott successfully built, maintained and negotiated a large portfolio of commercial mid-stream deals and developed strategies for mid-stream involvement in emerging plays throughout the WCSB. Scott has designed key business development strategies for Steel Reef's continued success.

Rob Duguid

Rob has over 25 years' experience in Private Equity and Finance. He is a founding partner of SaskWorks Venture Fund Inc. and a partner in PFM Capital Inc. Since 2003, Rob has held the position of Vice President, Investments for PFM Capital Inc., Apex Investment Fund, and Saskatchewan Entrepreneurial Fund. Rob is also Vice President, Investments and Chief Financial Officer for the general partner of Prairie Ventures Fund Limited Partnership and the Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary of SaskWorks Venture Fund Inc. From 2000 to 2003, Rob was a partner with Crown Capital Partners Inc. From 1994 to 2000, he held the position of Vice President, Investments with the Saskatchewan Government Growth Fund Management Corporation. Prior to this, Rob was Vice President Finance and Investments with the International Centre for Agricultural Science and Technology (ICAST) from 1992 to 1994. Before joining ICAST, Rob was a Manager with KPMG Management Consultants where he was responsible for the Regina practice. He currently holds several directorships in investee companies. Rob holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Regina. 

Robert Lehodey

Robert  has over 25 years' experience in the areas of corporate securities, oil, gas and general commercial matters. His practice is transactional in nature and includes corporate mergers and acquisitions, public offerings and private placements of equity and debt securities, purchase and sale of assets and shares, corporate restructurings, together with all associated contract negotiations and preparation. He has significant corporate governance experience and has served on a number of public and private boards in positions as Chair, Lead Director and member of governance committees. Bob represents a diverse group of clients, including oil and gas E&P and service companies, oil sands companies, private equity providers, securities dealers and investment banks. He is a Senior Partner at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP.


Gregory J. Smith

Gregory is President and Chief Executive Officer of InstarAGF Asset Management Inc. Gregory has over 20 years of experience in the investment, operation, acquisition, and financing of public and private infrastructure, real estate, power, and utility businesses. Prior to founding InstarAGF, Gregory was Managing Partner and head of Brookfield Financial’s Global Infrastructure Advisory Group from 2010 to 2013. From 2003 to 2010, Gregory was the President of Macquarie Capital Funds Canada Ltd. Prior to Macquarie, Gregory was Managing Director and Co-Head of RBC Capital Partners - Mezzanine Fund from 2001 to 2003 and a Managing Director at Deloitte & Touche Corporate Finance from 1997 to 2001.  Gregory  has also previously served on the Board of Directors of Canada’s Venture Capital & Private Equity Association, and held positions as Chair and President.  Gregory is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Business Valuator, and holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen's University

Jamie McVicar

Jamie has over 30 years’ experience in the fields of law, real estate and finance, in public and private companies. Between October 2000 and October 2011, Jamie held the position of Chief Financial Officer, and subsequently Vice President Finance and Administration, at Devonian Properties Inc., a property development company. Prior thereto, Jamie served as President of Newell Post Developments Ltd., a property development company, from June 1998 to June 2000, and legal counsel for Oxford Development Group, a property development company, from 1988 to June 1998. Jamie has served as trustee of Smart Real Estate Investment Trust (formerly Calloway Real Estate Investment Trust), a real estate investment trust with units listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, since December 2001, and has served as a member of Calloway’s Audit Committee and Chair of its Corporate Governance and Compensation Committee since 2003. Jamie holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Toronto.

Steve Magus

Steve has over 20 years’ experience in the Canadian oil and gas sector in drilling management, engineering, completions and construction. Steve is Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of Magus Engineering, a leading privately held engineering and consulting firm, with over 70 employees and well site consultants. Steve focuses on assisting upstream oil and gas companies design all types of drilling projects, including horizontal well with multi-stage completion systems, vertical and directional wells, shallow gas wells and oil sands delineation wells. Steve holds a diploma in Petroleum Technology from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.

Jonathan Stone

Jonathan Stone is a seasoned infrastructure investment professional with over 20 years of experience as a financial advisor, equity sponsor and contractor across multiple sectors and jurisdictions.  As a partner at InstarAGF, Jonathan shares responsibility for strategic and business development, transactions and asset management. Jonathan was most recently Managing Director and Co-Head, Energy, Infrastructure, Power & Utilities EMEA at Scotiabank, where he advised such businesses in identifying, marketing, negotiating and executing investment opportunities.  He co-founded the Scotia Waterous Infrastructure Finance Team (SWIFT), an internal joint venture to pursue energy infrastructure M&A opportunities such as storage, midstream and LNG. Jonathan received a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Cambridge (Judge Business School), a Bachelor of Engineering from McGill University and is a CFA® charterholder.

Neil Roszell

Neil has over 20 years of industry experience in the upstream energy sector and is currently the Chief Executive Officer and President of Raging River Exploration Inc.  He has founded a number of successful public upstream oil and gas companies including Raging River Exploration Inc., Wild Stream Exploration Inc. (formerly Eagle Rock Exploration Ltd.), Wild River Resources, Prairie Schooner Petroleum Ltd. And Point North Energy Ltd.  

Dean Potter

Dean holds a Masters of Science in Geology and is a proven and successful oil and gas exploration oriented geologist with over 28 years of experience in the upstream energy sector.  Dean has founded a number of successful private upstream oil and gas companies, including Elkhorn Resources Inc., Medora Resources Inc., DPX Inc., and SITO Geo-Consulting Ltd.  Dean brings to the advisory group strong geological experience and opinion drawing upon a diverse technical background across a wide variety of petroleum reservoirs in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.
